WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

PROJECT DESIGN
THINKING & DOING (CERTIFICATE)

LEADERSHIP
1- or 2-DAY SESSION
IN-HOUSE
6-24 PERSONS

Get to know your customers! Acquire fresh tools and techniques and find out what your most important stakeholders really want.

WHO SHOULD TAKE PART?

This workshop is a leadership journey for all leaders - with or without an organizational authority to lead.

WHAT IS THE WORKSHOP GOOD FOR?

In this high-energy workshop, you will discover a human-centered approach to create valuable outcomes with a project or with any other complex initiative. You will experience and practice a range of visual tools that help you to truly understand the needs and wishes of your customers and communicate more effectively with them. After the workshop you are prepared to develop a shared understanding with customers and key stakeholders about what makes a project or initiative successful. Simple and effective and guaranteed to be undogmatic.

WHY USE A "HUMAN-CENTERED APPROACH"?

Project customers and stakeholders are never departments, organizations or other abstract entities. We can neither speak with departments, nor reason with organizations. We can only do that with people. If you want to create real impact with an initiative, you need to understand the people, who
- know the true purpose of the project (project owners),
- will get the results of the project (recipients),
- create tailwind or headwind for the project (other key stakeholders).

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

In this workshop you will practice effective techniques from different disciplines like design thinking, visualization, management, and facilitation and you will deepen your skills to listen and to challenge limiting patterns of communication wisely in order to
- identify your actual customers and find out what they really want,
- understand the true purpose of an initiative and determine the desired results,
- sense the environment and know the stakeholders
- put yourself in your stakeholders’ shoes.
We will work with the following tools:
- Customer Hats
- Sympathy Map
- 5 Whats
- Why-What Balance
- Mission Finder
- Dream Headlines
- Wind of Change

HOW YOU WILL LEARN

The major part of the day will be spent on “learning by doing”. You will hands-on work individually as well as in small groups, on real projects – no fiction. You can bring in your own case and directly advance your project or initiative. At the beginning of the workshop, we will go through a short and interactive introduction of “Project Design Thinking and Doing”. What is it, where does it come from? What are the underlying thoughts and principles? What are the key case studies? What are the challenges? Where can you find more information? During the entire workshop there will be enough space for reflections, knowledge sharing, tips and tricks.

You can book a 1-day workshop (fundamentals) and a 2-day workshop (mastery).
All tools and the certificate will be handed out after the session and are free of use.

We customize the course to the needs of your target group (e.g. participants with or without project expertise, managers, trainers, facilitators, etc.). We provide attractive rates and reduced conditions for those who work not-for-profit and want to improve the world.

Founded in 2013 by Karen Schmidt & Frank Habermann, “Over the Fence” is an open  community. For people in projects. Conceived and created with love and passion in Berlin and in the world.

We re-think projects! For this, we connect deep expertise in leadership and management with stories, wisdom, and modes of thought from other disciplines like sports, psychology, design, theatre and the arts. By this, we aim to provide the most valuable knowledge for anyone, who faces complex projects and is looking for hands-on tools. We are offering handbooks, toolkits, and very effective help for all project makers, movers and shakers. Our motto is “simple but powerful – demystified and buzzword-free”.
